Everybody knows that when your relationship is fresh, all you are concerned about is keeping everything in good standing. Pleasing your other half is of tantamount importance. But along the way to this pleasant path of peace and tranquility, sometimes there can be some sacrifices that are really quite painful.

You have grown accustomed to living a certain way, that has worked out alright until now, with the exception of being a little lonely sometimes. But marriage will change all that. And that makes it worth the little sacrifices here and there. Then without much notice at first, the old man begins to fade away, and this new guy takes over. You have a hard time recognizing him sometimes. Life as you knew it, slowly dissipates and is gone.

She is heading to your new home to get things ready, while you stay behind to clean things up and meet her there later. To have the money needed for this transition, you stay behind to do some odd jobs and haul off the trash. If you do the jobs, you will have enough to cover the move. You feel sick to your stomach. All these little parts of yourself, some not really important, but some terribly important, were about to leave for the trash heap. Now you pull out a plastic bag that is down inside the box, and you spot your old baseball glove. When you lift it from the bag, out of the thumb in the glove, falls your rhodium plated ring. It was presented to you at an honoring ceremony. They honored you for giving ten solid years of service at the local boys club working with young people in the community.

You begin to wonder how you let things get so out of hand. You realize that just because these things hold much value for you, that she could not have known. Some things only have meaning for the people who know about them. You know it is not her fault. But you also realize, that you are responsible for keeping your life and memories alive, because it just is not possible for anyone else to appreciate them like you. And that love can be good, but can sometimes come down hard on you.
